Mass Shooting in Arkansas Grocery Store (21 June 2024)

I've decided to began using this blog to document mass murders, especially in the United States, where they seem to occur most often.  Heading into this year, it felt as if such incidences were on the decline.  But during the past week or so, there has been a spike in mass shootings, murder/suicides, the murder of children and such matters stateside.

This latest incident resulted in four deaths.  The fatalities were Ellen Shrum (81 years old), Shirley Taylor (62), Roy Sturgis (50) and Callie Weems (28).  It's safe to presume that none of them were actually expecting to die that day, given the fact that at the time they were apparently in engaged morning time shopping.

The scene of the crime, a grocery store in a part of Arkansas
known as Fordyce.

There were also "seven other civilians" shot, including one woman who remains in critical condition.  Let's pray that she makes it through okay.

Travis Posey, the man who murderously opened fire
on a group of innocents in a grocery store.

The shooting victims also include a couple of police officers, who got into a firefight with the suspect, one Travis Posey (44).  Judging by his mugshot, Posey was not seriously injured in the exchange, after murdering at least four innocent people and ruining the lives of who knows how many others.

I want to use this opportunity to point out that there are parts of the world where, if someone murders an innocent like this, they will likely be lynched, either by civilians or law enforcement.  I believe that US society has become so anti-vigilantism and so dedicated to "criminal justice" that people such as this A-hole feel free or maybe even empowered to commit such atrocities.

Many criminals in the United States aren't even afraid of incarceration.  Prisoners in the US are afforded more benefits than billions of honest, law-abiding citizens in some other parts of the world.  I've lived in a place outside of the US, where the absolute last thing anyone in their right mind wants is to end up incarcerated.

"So you shall not pollute the land where you are; for blood defiles the land, and no atonement can be made for the land, for the blood that is shed on it, except by the blood of him who shed it." -Number 35:33

I'm not trying to come off as an advocate of extrajudicial killing.  But it just feels weird seeing this guy who just murdered four people, including a senior citizen and a couple of ladies old enough to be his mother and after being caught by the police, appearing as if he's virtually unscathed.

CONCLUSION

There used to be a time when only Americans living in bad neighborhoods had to worry random shootings, so to speak.  It isn't like that anymore.  Now, virtually any location in the United States can become the scene of a mass shooting, with even the most vulnerable of civilians being targeted.  I never even heard of Fordyce, Arkansas before this incident.  And look at the way in which that town has gained widespread notoriety.
