"Apophis" and the Prophesied Threat of Meteors (Part 2)
A couple of months ago, I wrote an article which referred to "Wormwood", a meteor which, according to Revelations, is prophesied to hit the Earth. And upon doing so, it will also wreak all types of apocalyptic-level devastation.
When I did that research, just some 60 days ago, the information available indicated that whereas an asteroid dubbed "Apophis" will, relatively speaking, come close to Earth a couple of times within the next 12 years, it is not likely that to make impact. But suddenly, over this past week, that narrative, i.e. the prospect of an asteroid hitting Earth, seems to have changed or in the least become more palpably alarming.
First came NASA's "hypothetical exercise" to began preparing for the possibility of an "asteroid with 72% chance hitting the Earth in 14 years". Fourteen years from now would be 2038. That's roughly the same year in which it was has been calculated that Apophis may make landfall. More specifically, based on the distance it will pass the Earth, "99942 Apophis" is said to have the highest possibility of impacting us in 2029 or, to a lesser degree, in 2036.
Then, according to an article the New York Post uploaded on 27 June 2024, another asteroid hovering close to the Earth "was only discovered only a week ago". This one, which has been dubbed 2024 MK, "will come closer to the Earth than the moon on June 29". In that regard it is similar to Apophis, which will past at a distance "10 times closer to the moon" in 2029.
This is besides another asteroid, the "planet killer" 2011 UL21, which was discovered back in 2011 and whizzed by the Earth, so to speak, on June 27. 2024 MK came closer (on June 29), but 2011 UL21 seems to have raised more alarms due to its size being "larger than 99% of all known near-Earth objects". In other words if it were to hit, the devastation could be world-changing.
CONCLUSION
But I think what really makes this post interesting is 2024 MK. As one high-ranking NASA official stated, "a large asteroid impact is potentially the only natural disaster humanity has the technology to predict years in advance". 2024 MK was obviously not big enough for them to pick up on, but that doesn't mean it wouldn't cause major damage if it made landfall.
According to Space.com, an asteroid of 330 feet, i.e. "the size of a soccer field", would be large enough to cause potentially catastrophic damage within a 9 mile radius. Meanwhile, 2024 MK is about a 1.5 miles (approx. 7,400 feet) wide. Yet, to reiterate, NASA and the rest of them were unable to detect it until the proverbial last second.
So this illustrates, if nothing else, that we can be faced with a major, non-alien threat from outer space at any moment. Once an asteroid is within a certain distance of Earth, by all means mankind will be able to detect it. But then it's like, what can we do about it anyway? So the threat of Wormwood, as relayed in the Book of Revelations, is a very-real one, even if that prophecy is more or less neglected by most believers.
